For others to believe in your expertise, you must believe in it first! The following tips will prepare you to proudly own your experience and take advantage of your coaching style.
Get your name out there! Reach out to publications, blogs, podcasts, YouTube channels—anywhere you can be seen to introduce yourself and your work. It doesn’t matter what stage of your career you’re in. Even if you’re still a sex coaching student, you know more than many when it comes to sex. Share your knowledge early!
Get a head start on building your credibility. Even if you’re not prepared to call yourself an expert right now, work on building an email list and a good social media following, so people will already be tuned in and waiting when you’re ready to help them. Find out what questions people are asking about sexuality and answer as many as you can. This can be on a small scale, like addressing questions on a question-and-answer platform or your social media profile, or on a bigger scale, like guest posting to blogs. Just remember to respect the boundaries of your qualifications!
Sharpen your most essential skills. Get familiar with the practices of active listening, critical thinking, and intuitive observation. As you work with clients, you’ll find that many of them have a hard time expressing their sexual concerns and desires. Without even asking, they’re relying on you to glean the hidden messages in their words, tone, and body language. Practice these skills in your day-to-day interactions.
